A Ventnor man has been sent to prison for 34 weeks after he was found guilty of 11 offences including throwing orange juice at a security guard at St Mary’s Hospital.
David Walker, 34, currently of HMP Isle of Wight but previously of Albert Street in Ventnor, appeared before Magistrates for sentencing charged with 4x assault by beating, 1x assault by beating of an emergency worker, 1x common assault of an emergency worker, 4x criminal damage to property under £5,000 and 1x using violence to secure entry.
The offences all took place between 26th March 2023 and 19th April 2023.
Most notably on 16th April, whilst at St Mary’s Hospital receiving treatment for a sore ankle, Walker became obnoxious and verbally aggressive.
He was told to calm down by a Doctor to which Walker replied – ‘f**k off you posh twat’. As hospital security tried to apprehend him Walker threw some Orange juice at him whilst also making verbal threats.
Walker was pinned to the wall so that his catheter could be removed however no members of staff wished to carry out the task.
After being arrested, Walker damaged a cell at Newport Police Station after he urinated on the floor and smeared food on the intercom.
Just 2 days later Walker was arrested again after he had attempted to gain entry to a premises in Ventnor using a claw hammer. The court heard how Walker repeatedly showed up at the door within an hour long period and smacked the door some 10 times telling those inside ‘I know you’re in there’.
After being arrested and taken once again to Newport Police Station, Walker once again smeared faeces on the walls of the cell.
Walker has been in custody since April.
Defending, Amy Hosell said that her client wanted to be sentenced today and that since his arrest he was starting to calm down with his meds now taking affect. She also added that Walker has been seen by Ravenswood but it was deemed his health and mental state wasn’t bad enough.
After lengthy deliberations for some 30 minutes, Magistrates returned with their verdict and sentenced Walker to 34 weeks in custody uttering ‘take him down’ as they passed sentenced.
Vermin surely the use of lethal injection would be the best answer

Yet another low life being put on the sick forever, and costing us, the taxpayer, shedloads of money to keep him “normal”, 34 weeks is a joke, he will be out well before that and once again causing grief. Maybe he will pick on the wrong person next time.
Hopefully so, but guess who plod will nick! They probably building a free house for him for when he comes out as we speak.
Some people need to grow the hell up!! I bet this ignoramus hasn’t once contributed to society, instead either claiming benefits and a place to live or being given bed and board at Her Majesty’s Pleasure.
Saying his meds have started to take effect and he is now ‘calming down’. Ok well until then people can just carry on cleaning his faeces and urine up. Sounds like he should still be in nappies!!!!
Really, he should have been left in that dirty cell, to smell his own s%it for weeks on end and when he complains, offer him a bucket and mop

Everyone being a bit harsh on here me thinks.what is needed is a massive slice of TLC and a good councillor.Find him a nice council house increase his benefits reintegrate him into society slowly.Remember at the end of the day he is human just like you and I .

Going to prison won’t reform him. Give him 34 weeks of cleaning public toilets, perhaps at St Mary’s. If he misbehaves, another 34 weeks. Three strikes and more community service but then also remove his benefits for 34 weeks. Like with a toddler, he needs to ‘feel’ the consequences of his actions.
Funny how these violent morons calm down right before sentencing isn’t it?
