The semi-finals of the popular Island Echo Handicapped Singles was held at Smallbrook on Friday (24th January).
34 players competed in what was a long night of action, with the semi-finals finishing at 23:30 after 234 games had been played.
First up were the group stages, with 6 groups comprising 5 or 6 players in each, and the top 2 of each group went through to the knockout stages.
There were players of all ages and standards from all 3 divisions taking part, and the handicapped format gave everyone a chance to progress in the competition.
The quarter-finalists comprised 5 players from Division 1, 2 from Division 2 and 1 from Division 3.
In the semi-finals, top Island player Alex Rorke met Paul Cates from the 3rd division, whilst the other semi-final was an all Division 1 meeting between Tom Johnson and Bryce Wilson.

After 2 close games, the final will be between Alex Rorke and Tom Johnson, which promises to be a match of excellent quality, as Rorke is one of the Island’s top-performing players and also competes in the British Senior League, whilst Johnson is a former national Para champion.
The final will be played on Final’s Night on 30th April at the IW Table Tennis Centre at Smallbrook.
