A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, drink driving, failing to stop and taking without consent following a crash in central Ryde on Friday night.
It was at the end of last week that Island Echo reported that a black Toyota Aygo had smashed into 2 parked vehicles on Weeks Road.
It was suggested by witnesses that the driver, who fled the scene, was under the influence.
Now, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that the suspected driver of the vehicle, which is understood to belong to his girlfriend, has been identified.
The force says that a 32-year-old man from The Strand, Ryde has been questioned on suspicion of drink driving, dangerous driving, failing to stop, and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.
He has been bailed, with conditions, until 12th February.
