A drug driver from Shanklin has been banned from the roads for 36 months – and it’s thanks to a Police officer who recognised her as she drove through Apse Heath.
Faye Owen, 38, of Silver Trees in Shanklin, pleaded guilty to drug driving when she appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday (12th September).
The Crown Prosecutor told the court that on the morning of 19th April this year, at around 10:00, a Roads Policing Officer was traveling along Newport Road toward Apse Heath. The officer was alerted to the vehicle due to previous dealings with Owen as someone who may be under the influence of drink or drugs.
Having pulled the property management company owner over, a roadside drugs wipe was conducted which returned a positive reading for cannabis, namely 5.6 – the legal limit being 2.0.
Oscar Vincent, defending, said that his client was fully cooperative with the Police procedure and that she smoked cannabis to offer a remedy to some long-term injuries she sustained.
It was only in July that Owen appeared in court for drug driving. She was banned for 12 months.
Now, following her latest court appearance, the 38-year-old has been handed a 36-month driving ban. She has also been ordered to pay a £250 fine, £85 costs and a £100 surcharge fee.

Are there no prisons for drug or drink drivers.
Would have been cheaper to get a legal prescription if she has a qualifying condition.
Didn’t know PMT was a qualifying condition….
So at the time of the offence she was banned and drug driving. Not only does she not respect the court, she doesn’t respect the road laws. Obviously a reprehensible person who members of the public and potential customers should give a wide berth to as it is clear she only thinks about herself and no one else.
No, this conviction is for an offense committed in April, she was disqualified in July.
No, she was banned for 12 months for a previous drug driving offence in July, she has now had another 36 month ban in September. In other words, she was driving while banned and will no doubt just ignore the latest ban too as she clearly has utter contempt for everyone else. Should have jailed her.
I love the comment cowboys . She had 2 offences that took place in April. She was convicted of the first in July and the second one now. Hope the law degree is going well!
Property Management owner? She can’t even manage her own life, let alone other peoples assets.
Says the keyboard warrior on Island Echo :’D
Total rubbish there is no evidence that cannabis will effect your driving ! Indeed the police chief who made this law has himself just been done for smoking it constantly ! You fools believe anything don’t you
Seems that the fool on here is you if you seriously think that cannabis doesn’t affect your ability to drive. People like you are the problem.
