A collision involving 3 vehicles has forced the closure of the main road between Newport and Sandown at Arreton this morning (Monday).
Police, paramedics and firefighters are all currently on scene on the A3056 Arreton Road, close to the junction with East Lane.
Island Echo understands the driver of a white Nissan Leaf failed to negotiate a left hand bend whilst travelling from Newport towards Arreton shortly before 11:00. As a result, the car smashed into the side of a Fiat Doblo and a Ford Ranger travelling in the opposite direction.
No serious injuries have been sustained but paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are currently checking over the elderly occupants of the Nissan, as well as the male driver of the Fiat.
The male driver of the Ford pickup has been cleared of injury at the roadside.
Police have closed the main road between the junctions with Merstone Lane and Down End Road, with traffic being diverted locally.
Recovery has been arranged and the road is expected to reopen within the hour.
All 3 vehicles have sustained significant damage and will likely be written off.
UPDATE – The road has now reopened to all traffic.
Nissan Leaf failed to negotiate a left hand bend, nothing to do with the jerk driving it then.
Should be some hard prosecution here..but wont happen, that is some speed going on there to have done that..still at least it’s hurt them in the pocket no car and costs involed….here again more crap driving.
More old driving
Have you not seen the young drivers,
they are worse.
The standard of driving is atrocious on this island. ALL age groups, male AND female! A few weeks ago, a THREE car crash on Holyrood Street! How can this possibly happen on a one-way street where speed should be slow along here? It’s unbelievable! I see men & woman driving much faster than 30mph down Carisbrooke High Street. I see jumping red lights, parking on double yellow lines, tailgating, dangerous overtaking and worse. It’s completely SELFISH behaviour! An elderly friend of mine said that their elderly friend had to have a memory test before being able to renew their licence. Apparently, the elderly partner of the driver was coaching him with the names of the PM, the King, the date etc so that he would pass. TOTALLY IRRESPONSIBLE!
Until the island authorities
(Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck)
Enforce strict speeding rules, accidents will
keep happening.
I cannot believe the way motorists are allowed to
speed on the island.
Where is the Law and Order for Speeding,
makes me sick.
Nobody is ‘allowed’ to speed, they just do it. Unless you can assign one police officer to every car, you probably won’t ever stop it. It’s always happened.
Good speed Camera’s would solve the speeding
problem plus more speed humps need installing
It is the only way to STOP idiots speeding.
“Voiceoftruth” , please stop showing your ignorance with these idiotic comments. Maybe you have not noticed that ALL age groups drive and none are free from blame, especially the inexperienced young drivers.
Exactly there you go blaming the young drivers but it hurts when your age group is and usually in the wrong.
Bad crash by the looks of it. Bet that was a shock to all involved.
Great news for the New Year, just read on BBC NEWS
New 20mph Zones are being considered for the
Isle of Wight.
Thank you and well done to Cllr Jordan and Karen Lucioni
for making our Roads a safer place for everyone,
It’s been long overdue.
I look forward to it coming.
