The main road between Newport and Cowes has been closed by Police this morning (Tuesday) as a result of a 3-car shunt near the prisons.
Emergency services are on scene at Parkhurst Road, near the junction with Clissold Road, where it is understood 3 vehicles have gone into the back of one another.
The crash occurred at just before 11:35.
Southern Vectis says that its Route 1 buses will divert via Forest Road, Whitehouse Road, Thorness and Pallance Road to join the normal route until further notice. The firm is also operating a shuttle service from Newport Bus Station to St Mary’s Hospital.
Motorists should avoid the area.
UPDATE @ 12:23 – The crash has involved a Suzuki Swift, a Vauxhall Zafira and a Citroen C4 Piccasso.
No serious injuries are thought to have been sustained, but the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service is on scene tending to those involved.
UPDATE @ 13:10 – Parkhurst Road has now reopened in both directions.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that nothing more than minor injuries have been reported.
Southern Vectis buses are returning to their normal route.
Hope the police check the MOT status on these old jalopy’s. Although I know of at least 2 garages on the Island passing MOT’S on dodgy cars… Fine these idiot’s for driving without due care and attention

maybe go to birmingham or bradford first before you talk about lawlessness. There will always be crime everywhere, just because we live on a tiny island doesn’t mean it’s gonna be crime free, but our crime is certainly less severe than a lot of other places in this country. Stop being so dramatic.
