A Newport teenager who kicked a Police Officer who was trying to detain him has been fined £240.
Jayden Dewhurst, 18, of Hunnyhill in Newport pleaded guilty to assault by beating of an emergency worker when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday (23rd May).
Liz Miller, prosecuting, told the court that on the evening of 6th May officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary were called by a member of the public to reports that a fight had broken out on Scarrots Lane.
Officers at the scene quickly located a male who matched the description given to them and attempted to apprehend the individual – Dewhurst.
The 18-year-old became aggressive towards those officers trying to detain him and unleashed some verbal abuse towards them, including calling one a ‘weirdo’.
Dewhurst was then forcibly taken to the floor so that he could cuffed. It was here that he kicked a Police Officer.
Defending, Michael McGoldrick told the court that Dewhurst had admitted that he had been drinking that evening and that he had no real recollection of the events of 6th May.
Magistrates fined Dewhurst £240 and ordered him to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge fee of £96.

That same old tune, “couldn’t remember” phaha then calling him a weirdo lol who is normal these days, this kid certainly isnt; what a weirdo he is for thinking hes normal enough to identify a supposed weird person LOL get a grip
Very lenient for such a crime.
Youngsters of today do not seem to respect the Police, unlike in the olden days.
The police don’t seem to earn any respect these days, unlike in “the olden days”
“Andy Churches” I hope ive misunderstood your comment? As in the law of this land and its law enforcement must EARN everyones respect before it can and will be respected?
If this is the way you ment it? Then It’s precisely this attitude that you have shown towards the Police that is encouraging a lot of the youth’s and other people in society to become unruly and have no fear or respect for the laws of this country and society. If you have children in your family I really hope that you have haven’t failed them by passing on your negative thoughts and attitude to anti social behaviour and the disrespectful attitude you’re showing to the Police and society? If your comment wasn’t meant like this then you have my apologies.
Randy Andy I see you later
Trevor pot head still growing weed , ur very hypocritical
I wonder if this Jayden kid has a job and can actually pay his fines????? Has the audacity to call a Police officer a weirdo. He’s the weirdo thinking he can get away with acting like he did. Certainly not normal. Obviously this kid has not been taught the correct way to behave.
Grow up or your gonna find yourself in a load more trouble before your life has really started. DOH!
If he can afford to get drunk to a point of not remembering he can pay the fine.
I really think it’s time for magistrates and judges to adjourn trials as soon as the excuse ‘too drunk to remember’ is rolled out, and add ‘drunk and disorderly’ to the charge sheet.
At least he got punished. If it was a member of the public you wouldn’t get any police attendance – he’d be free to repeat as he saw fit
That’s it’s 240 pound to kick pigs I kick them all day to pay that
