The Isle of Wight Table Tennis Winter League started last week with a total of 24 teams taking part over 3 divisions.
There is also a daytime doubles league which is running throughout the winter, giving further opportunity to compete for those who do not wish to play in the evening matches.
In Division 1, Ryde C, comprising Paul Rainford, Joe Chapman and Ryan Cates, are looking very strong after 2 matches, having lost only 2 games out of 20.
This week, they won 10-0 against Newport Vics A, although Joe Chapman was taken to 5 sets by Vic’s Anna Joyce in the best game of the night.
It was not a good week for Newport Vics as their B team also lost 10-0 to Ryde A, although Vics Rob Warren was on excellent form, taking top ranked Scott Lawson to 5 sets.

In Division 2, newly promoted Shorwell Spinners drew with the young team of cadets, Ryde Rising Stars, comprising Thane Taylor, Theo Lewis and Jye Lock, with Jye player of the match, winning all 3 of his games.
Newport Vics Division 2 teams had a better evening than their club mates in Division 1, with their C team gaining a notable win against Ryde Rascals, with Paul Lewis player of the match, and their D team drawing against Ryde Rockets, with the Rocket’s Albert Lee unbeaten.

In Division 3, Ryde Retailers made short work of Shorwell Saints, winning without dropping a game, and look the team to beat this season, whilst St Lawrence Lizards also had an easy win against Ryde Rustics, with the match ending 8-2.
