22 Wight Tri members – including several mums on a mission – traded lie-ins and breakfast in bed for running shoes and bike helmets at the Colwell Caulker Duathlon on Mother’s Day morning (30th April).
The course featured either a 2.6km or 4.1km run along Colwell to Totland and back, followed by a choice of two bike loops: the scenic long route (26km) via Military Road or the shorter loop (16km) linking up through Wilmingham Lane and across Yarmouth bridge.
Some incredible times were recorded. Paul Martin completed the ‘long bike’ in a flying 46:33; however, he was pipped at the post by Craig Wilson for the long course only by 25 seconds in a finish time of 1:25:15.
The speediest over the short course was rookie, Patrick Condy, with a finish of 1:03:47, but only 51 seconds behind was Jurgita Bates with a Mother’s Day special of 1:04:36.
6 members finished within 30 seconds of their nominated times. Taking the timing crown was newcomer Martin Richomme, who nailed his finish at 1:09:58 – just 2 seconds off his predicted time on the short course.
Top 6 finishers:
1st Martin Richomme 2 seconds out
2nd Trevor McAlister 4 seconds out
3rd David Squirrell 14 seconds out
4th Annette Hickman 15 seconds out
5th Loic Le Floch 18 seconds out
6th Russ Mellor 27 seconds out
The next event is the Spring Triathlon on Sunday, 13th April at 8:00 to be held at the West Wight Sports Centre.
