21-year-old Patrick Douglas is to appear in court over a collision between an e-bike and a pedestrian on Ryde’s High Street earlier this year.
It was on 5th January that a 16-year-old girl was mowed down by an electric bicycle, as exclusively reported by Island Echo.
Following an investigation by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary, a summons has now been issued against the 21-year-old, who is accused of being the rider.
Douglas, of Fishbourne Lane, will appear at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on 29th July facing a total of 5 charges, including:
- Dangerous driving
- Driving without a licence
- Driving without insurance
- Riding a motorcycle on a road and failing to wear protective head gear
- Failing to stop
The teenage victim sustained injuries, but these were not serious.
All we need is the police to crack down on illegal electric scooters and high powered e bikes, we have one cretin who thinks he is clever doing wheelies along Ryde esplanade usually in the dark and having no lights whilst wearing black clothing, an accident waiting to happen.
Another suppended sentence ready to be dish out with a small fine then, by the out of touch judges.
