However, Idle battled back with the fourth set going to deuce, with Idle taking the deciding point. The fifth set was a nail biter which culminated in Idle winning 11-7 and gaining a notable victory, ending Lawson’s unbeaten record. The match ended 8-2 to Ryde, as they increased their lead at the top of the table.

That said, sub Trevor Percival played up from Division 2 and performed well to gained a win against Havenstreet’s Dave Rendle. Brothers Sean and Michael Joyce won 2 and 1 respectively, whilst player of the match Havenstreet’s Ollie Staniforth continued his fine form, winning all 3 of his singles, and the doubles with partner Dave Rendle against the Joyce brothers. The match finished 6-4 to Havenstreet.
Ryde Rascals gained an impressive win against Shanklin B, considered contenders for the Second Division title at the start of the season.
Ryde’s Peter Clarke and John Featherstone won all their matches, but teammate Alan Hopkins was unlucky after battling out 2 5-setters, to come away with nothing.
Shanklin’s Tom Waddell and Alan Dennis won the doubles easily against Clarke and Featherstone, with the match ending 6-4 to Ryde.
