A teenager is in a serious condition at Southampton General Hospital after he crashed his electric motorbike into a car in Ryde Town Centre last night (Tuesday), sustaining significant head and leg injuries.
It was just before 20:30 that emergency services rushed to George Street, at the junction with Cross Street and Melville Street, to reports that a two-wheeled vehicle had collided with a red Ford Fiesta, as first reported by Island Echo.
It is understood that the 16-year-old rider crashed into the side of the Fiesta before rolling over the vehicle and hitting his head on the windscreen on the other side.
Due to concerns that the rider had sustained significant head trauma, the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was scrambled from its base at Thruxton, landing at Simeon Street Recreation Ground.
The advanced doctors and paramedics stabilised the injured teen and accompanied him to St Mary’s Hospital via land ambulance, before later rushing him across the Solent by air to Southampton General Hospital’s Major Trauma Centre.
Police have confirmed that the teenage male remains in hospital in a serious condition.
Anyone with information or dashcam footage of the incident is asked to call Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary on 101, quoting the reference number 44250555119.
All roads have now reopened.

An illegal surron,about time these were all taken off the roads,looks like karma caught up with this yoof,and hopefully learnt his lesson,hope he is ok,but if he is one of the many idiots in ryde that whizz around acting like idiots,lets hope the others take note.

I think the only sympathy here should be given to the driver of the vehicle who must have been shaken up by the sudden impact.
Now here’s a thought…
Fact: If a driver (or motor bike rider) causes serious injury to someone due to carless driving (riding), they can be charged with such an offence.
in law, it doesn’t matter who injured the person was. (male, female, (or other) old, young, black, white (or anything else in between))
So, if it can be proved that this young person, was at fault: As (allegedly) the e-bike he was riding is, for all intents and purposes, a motorbike, and as someone has suffered serious injury as a result of the collision, should he not be charged with ‘causing serious injury by careless riding’ ?? (along with, potentially, other offences, like: riding an illegal bike, without a licence, or insurance, or a helmet)
or would it be considered that the injuries he sustained are penalty enough?

What the hell is wrong with you people??!! A sixteen year old is seriously injured here. Regardless of whether he was riding carelessly/dangerously or not, that is someone’s baby. He’s made a mistake and it’s cost him dearly.
I hope the driver of the car is OK and I wish a speedy recovery for the sixteen year old child. It’s not a nice situation for anyone.

Finally a decent comment! People are so nasty and quick to judge. All that matters is that there is a young lad fighting for his life right now. Everyone including the driver, had their lives changed that night and that’s something they’ll all unfortunately have to live with for the rest of their lives. I hope the lad makes a full and speedy recovery
