15 Wight Tri members took on the 2nd event of the Wight Tri Summer Splash and Dash Series – the Yaverland Aquabike – a 200 or 400m swim followed by a 1 or 2 lap, 10.5km or 19km cycle. The transition was based at the Yaverland Sailing and Boat Club, with the competitors taken on a fairly calm sea swim and then onto the bikes to cycle along the undulating roads from Yaverland towards Bembridge, turning right at the Windmill roundabout to return back to Yaverland roundabout to either finish or repeat. Liz Dunlop was the closest to her nominated time by posting 52.11 for the long course swim and bike, just 11 seconds outside her time. Craig Wilson was 2nd, 25 secs inside his 41min nomination with Dan Morgan 3rd, 35secs inside 41mins also. Dan and Craig had a great battle on the bike with Dan coming out on top taking the fastest overall in the long course in 40.25, with Craig 2nd in 40.35. Arielle Elton-Walters was fastest female, having caught Liz on the bike on the 2nd lap to finish in 51.46. Roy Young and Claire Squirrell were the fastest male and female on the short course in 28.45 and 30.05 respectively. The next event in the Summer Series is the Gurnard Aquathlon, which takes places next Friday (26th July). Those wishing to participate should meet at 18:00 for an 18:30 start at Gurnard Sailing Club.
