The discovery of a sinkhole – reported to be 12ft deep – has led to the closure of a main road through Totland today (Friday).
Island Roads was called out to The Broadway this morning amid concerns for public safety when the void was discovered in the carriageway.
It’s said there is further cracking evident, suggesting the problem may only get worse.
A full closure is in force between The Avenue and The Mall.
Southern Vectis’ Route 7 and 12 buses will terminate at Colwell Common and The Avenue respectively, with stops from Coastguard Cottages to Alum Bay not being served.
The island is Cracking up.
Might as well put it to some use. Would make a good low life and feral brat disposal pit. Every street needs one.
