Newport Vics A had a mixed week of fortunes, firstly succumbing to Shanklin Warriors in a 10-0 drubbing, with Shanklin’s Michael Bulpitt the player of the match.

In their second match of the week, their fortunes turned around as they met Ryde Rivals and won 8-2. Vic’s Dave Hilliam was player of the match, as the only person who was able to beat the Rival’s Pat Thorley.

Newport Vics B also suffered a 10-0 defeat against Ryde Royals, with the Royal’s Hugh Idle player of the match.

The match of the week was between League leaders Ryde A and Ryde Raiders. The Raider’s Alex Rorke won all his games, but teammates Joseph Chapman and Timothy Giles could not get the better of Ryde A’s Lee Orton, Mark Turner and Rob Smith, despite Chapman taking Smith to 5 sets and deuce in the final set, ultimately losing 14-12. The match ended 6-4 to Ryde A, who top the table by six points, ahead of Ryde Royals, with Shanklin Warriors in 3rd.

Division 2          

The match of the week in Division 2 was between top-of-the-table Havenstreet Locos and 3rd-placed Ryde Relics, who met in a thrilling encounter with close games and high-quality play.  The Relics unbeatable Glenn Morley almost met his match in Havenstreet’s Graham Evans but held on to win in 5 sets. Morley teamed up with junior teammate Lewis Johnstone to take the doubles in five sets, and the match ended in a draw.

2nd placed Shanklin Skuas had an easy win against the Undercliff Belters, with only the Belter’s Bryce Wilson winning a game against Shanklin’s Spike Hughes.

Division 3

The match of the week was between Shorwell A and Ryde Rockets, a closely fought and long match which culminated in a draw with the Rockets Stephen Gibbons player of the match.

Newport Vics B head the table with a 12-point lead over their nearest rivals, Ryde Rustics and Shorwell A, and have two matches in hand.
