UPDATED: Emergency services were called to the scene of a collision between a young cyclist and a van in Cowes this morning (Wednesday).
The incident occurred shortly before 06:30 in Victoria Road when a Mercedes Sprinter van came into contact with a cyclist
Paramedics raced to the scene, transferring the casualty to a spinal board and onwards to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport.
Southern Vectis’ Route 1 buses were effected by the incident for a short period, diverting via Gordon Road and Granville Road in the town for around 15 minutes.
The incident has now been cleared and the road has reopened.
UPDATED @ 09:55 – A spokesperson for St Mary’s Hospital has confirmed that the teenage boy was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital this morning suffering from serious head injuries after his condition deteriorated.
UPDATED @ 10:10 – Hampshire Constabulary are appealing for witnesses to come forward following the serious collision at 06:20 this morning. Any witnesses are asked to contact Police by calling 101.
