A talented young pianist from the Isle of Wight has marked a major milestone in his musical career by performing for the first time with a professional orchestra.
Thomas Luke, 22, recently appeared alongside the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in a special concert in Poole, performing a programme of romantic music to a packed audience.
His performance received a standing ovation, marking a proud moment for the musician and those who have supported his journey so far.
Thomas currently studies at the Royal College of Music in London and has already built a reputation as one of the Isle of Wight’s most promising young musical talents.
He has been performing professionally for several years alongside his studies, with his debut with the internationally recognised Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra representing a significant step forward in his career.
Thomas has said:
“This was my first concert as a soloist with a professional orchestra and I really hope it’s the first of many. As I continue to establish my career as a professional performer, opportunities like this are incredibly important to me. Alongside my studies at the Royal College of Music, I’m thoroughly enjoying performing and have a busy schedule over the coming years.
“Studying and performing music at a very high level requires a lot of practice, commitment and, of course, travel. My sponsorship from Wightlink actually began 12 years ago when I was a Junior at the Royal Academy of Music, travelling from the Isle of Wight to London every Saturday. Their support with that was amazing. Now performing regularly both on and off the Isle of Wight, their continued support is very much appreciated.”
The orchestral debut follows another major achievement for the young musician, who has recently released his first album titled See Me Now. The album features a collection of original works and highlights his growing reputation as both a performer and composer.
Sam Woodman, Partnerships Marketing Manager at Wightlink, has said:
“We are absolutely delighted to see Thomas flourishing. It’s been brilliant to watch his progress over the years and to see him now performing with a professional orchestra of this calibre. We’re incredibly proud to have supported him on his journey and to see him releasing his own music. He’s a fantastic ambassador for the Isle of Wight.”
