Fred Hall, diagnosed with type one diabetes last year, has already raised over £2,000 through his JustGiving page.
Tomorrow (Saturday), he will cycle from Borthwood to Brighstone, hitting jumps and riding trails along the way, to raise awareness of the 4 key symptoms of diabetes.
Fred explained the “4 T’s” – Toilet, Thirsty, Thin, and Tired – were how he discovered his condition:
- Toilet – going to the toilet more often than usual, or wetting the bed.
- Thirsty – being extremely thirsty and unable to quench it.
- Thin – losing weight or looking thinner than usual.
- Tired – feeling more tired than normal.
Fred added:
“I believe that raising awareness of the 4 T’s could help people catch diabetes early. I’m extremely lucky my condition was diagnosed quickly because if not, it can be life-threatening.”
He hopes his challenge will also inspire other people living with type one diabetes, declaring:
“I want to show that diabetes should never stop you from doing anything.”
All funds raised will go directly to the Isle of Wight Paediatric Diabetes Team and the children’s ward.
Fred added:
“I remember when I was in the children’s ward and they gave me a Lego advent calendar with some money another person had raised for them. It made such a difference.”
Friends, family, and members of the public are invited to join Fred on the ride to help raise awareness and funds for this important cause.
Anyone wishing to donate may do so here.
