Teenage beach soccer stars from the Isle of Wight enjoyed a memorable international tournament competing for Great Britain last weekend.
2 all-Island teams – Under 16s and Under 18s – both reached the semi-finals in their respective competitions at the Madjer International Youth Beach Soccer Cup in Portugal.
The U16s won 3 of their 9 matches, beating the Spanish and Portuguese national champions.
The U18s also enjoyed victories over both nations before losing their semi-final, which was followed by an agonising penalty shoot-out defeat to the USA in the bronze medal match.
Luke Kerr, general manager of the Isle of Wight Beach Soccer Association, said:
“The boys were superb and a great credit to the Island and Great Britain.
“They were all in the lower age brackets of their groups, meaning next year they can return in the same event but older and more experienced.
“I was really proud of them all and we’re already looking forward to next year’s competition.”
