UPDATED: POLICE are investigating a collision between a bus and a young pedestrian in Newport this morning (Friday).
Emergency services were called to Trafalgar Road at the junction with Nelson Road at 09:05 after receiving reports that a 12-year-old boy had been hit by a Southern Vectis bus.
It is understood that the boy was riding a non-motorised scooter at the time.
Island Echo’s Junior Reporter, Daniel, was on the scene within 3 minutes of the collision and reported that the boy had received serious leg injuries.
Paramedics transferred the casualty to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment.
Both Trafalgar Road and Nelson Road remained closed for over an hour while investigations were carried out as to the cause of this incident. The roads have since reopened.
Police were seen at Southern Vectis’ depot in Nelson Road at 10:30 this morning speaking to those involved and assessing CCTV footage from on board the vehicle.

The boy, who Island Echo are not naming, was transferred to Southampton General Hospital by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance at 14:30 yesterday afternoon.
Today, Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision to come forward.
