More houses are proposed for a major development site visible as you drive into Cowes.
With approval for more than 170 properties already, Meadow View Park on Place Road is looking to increase the number of houses in its 3rd phase.
Penwood Developments has permission for 30 properties on that part of the land but is looking to increase it to 37, should the Isle of Wight Council approve plans. By removing some of the 4-bed houses and detached chalet bungalows, space has been made to add 2 and 3-bed semi-detached houses.
In a planning statement submitted on behalf of the developers, Simon Denness Architecture, said the change in the housing mix has been made to better reflect demand, with a higher need for smaller, two and three-bed properties.
It is also due to the rising building costs, he said, with ‘greater efficiencies’ in semi-detached properties compared to large detached homes. Of the 37 properties, 21 would be market-price houses and the other 16 affordable properties — 12 rented and 4 owned.
Building work has started on homes in this phase of Meadow View Park that are not affected by te changes.
You can view the plans, 22/01307/FUL, on the council’s planning register. Comments can be made until September 23.

Lots of new citizens will need lots of new houses to be built
Don’t you just love the choice of names for this destruction?
‘Meadow View Park’ , conjures up images of children playing in a beautiful Meadow.
Whereas the reality view will likely be of cramped benefit hutches with diverse beings lurking around dealing, growing and scamming every benefit with mental health the preferred easy con nowadays.
Island is ruined forever due to greed of developers aided by even greedier councillors.
As the naive welcome the worlds chancers here we ALL pay a bitter cost for their stupidity
Well the land used to be a meadow, but after the developers have finished I very much doubt there’ll be much meadow left to view!
Hope they don’t want to drive anywhere……
No – unless they are willing to demonstrate how the infrastructure will be upgraded to handle all these people and for it to be proven in practice. If not, they should be made to return the site to nature at their own expense.
we do not need more benefit spongers and asylum seekers from france pitching up here.
Meadow view..but for who? its full of houses now.
The population of Island hardly changed in 25yrs, there are less children and schools can’t fill classrooms, the problem is that those middle class and rich are buying up houses and having as holiday homes or Airbnb, it’s not because of people moving here. Simple tax 2nd home owners – I have a friend who has over a dozen homes here and let’s them out for Airbnb.
population of island hardly changed freddie -what planet are you on.
https://populationdata.org.uk/isle-of-wight-population/
from population data site..
2001 – 132,741
2011 – 138,265
2021 – 142,296
just over 4000 additional people now live on the island than they did 10 years ago and nearly 10,000 more than 20 years ago.
20 years ago the main road networks on the island were exactly the same as today, there have been no increases in hospital facilities, doctors or other infrastructure facilities.
The Isle of Wight Council estimates that the population will increase to 171,200 by 2033. – destroyers of the island greenfields.
I think their predictions might be a bit off, the report (which is from 2011), predicted a population of 155,000 in 2021 which is about 10,000 off of the actual number, fair to say we won’t be reaching 171,200 anytime soon.
.
No extra Hospital beds
The bit you are conveniently avoiding, because it doesn’t fit with your regular xenophobic and “benefit spongers” gibberish, is that all of the increase in the Island population has been in those aged over 65.
Unless you consider pensioners to be benefit spongers?
go be a do gooder somewhere else and pay for the leeches yourself
the rest of us want lower taxes and we need less spongers to achieve it…Trust you get that bit.
Freddie doesn’t want to hear the bitter truth about the terrible effects of constant mass immigration is indirectly and directly now having here.
Many have such in their families so feel the need to defend them all
Difference is we can see and admit the
Growing issues with our own people but they are beyond criticism yet secretly many now known what a huge mistake it has been but race card and admitting you are wrong prevents the truth being said in many cases now
BEST COMMENT OF THE MONTH…….so far.
At least one Council (Basingstoke) has ,very belatedly, tumbled to the FACT that they have built too many houses for the number of people they can care for and are trying to stop building. It’s gone far past the time when the IWC should have woken up to the same situation
Funny how these developments are called ‘meadow view park’ when they probably bulldozed the meadows to build the houses! Yet again, no more houses thank you, don’t want any more land destroyed and I need to see a dentist but no dentists available, I’m sure more people moving in won’t make it worse for the people living here, and then most will probably go to second home overners.
Even though over the years more and more houses and flats are built.
Never extra Hospital beds are created for extra demand
The beds and wards aren’t the issue. The problem is the lack of medical staff to run them. You can thank the 12 years of Torry depredations on the NHS for that.
Perhaps its your selective memor but how about recalling the labour party who emptied the treasury, amd sold our gold reserves for less than they were worth and then remember why we had austerity, without it we would have gone bankcrupt.
And you won’t have to wait long before the next toxic Tory PM completes the total ruination of the NHS and other services that we have already paid for. We go on paying increasing amounts but receiving less and less.
Very true.
Many of the staff I have seen over the years are clueless and useless
All major housing developments require payment to councils to build the infrastructure to support the added people living. This is a fact.
This money is for GPs, hospitals, dentists etc.
Yet strangely in 20 years with 10k more people, I don’t see another hospital for them? Or major expansion of the only one in Newport.
I hope the people buying these houses will be informed of the ratio of people to hospital / hospital beds, dentists etc.
So all these people move in & want to register with a GP any suggestions as to where as Cowes Medical Centre can’t actually cope now ???? Traffic on a Monday Morning (refuse collection day) is chronic, ah well the Council want to ruin the Island & squeeze a few more here & there getting extra Council Tax as long as it’s not next door to them ! Well you bet it’s not !!
The sole basis of house building should be on need , now we know the population is barely moving one way or another and the predictions of the Isle of wight council for the future requirements can be taken with a pich of salt , Even accounting for the million or so illegal immigrants that we do not need but oddly have trouble tracking down and even more perversely our willingness to house them ahead of people who have been waiting for years there is very little requirment for additonal housing on the island.
Why the hell are affordable houses in the minority? The IOW Planning Department should insist on more and not pass these plans. It’s all about greed and making money. The island needs more affordable homes for people trying to get onto the property ladder, not more ‘unaffordable’ second homes!
So glad the Government are looking into the number of 2nd homes sitting empty and the numbers currently being built.
I can’t even afford my own house, let alone a second one!
