Parts of the Isle of Wight experienced their coldest night of the winter so far as temperatures plummeted overnight to as low as -5.8c in Yaverland.
According to data from IW Met Service, several locations across the Isle of Wight recorded severe overnight frosts, with Newbridge hitting -5.5c and Swanmore in Ryde seeing lows of -5.4c.
Lake and Roud also saw sharp dips, with temperatures falling to -4.9c and -4.7c respectively.
Over in Wootton… although not one of the coldest locations, parts of the creek froze up overnight.
The freezing conditions follow earlier warnings issued for sub-zero temperatures and the deployment of gritters on Wednesday evening. As previously reported, Island Roads carried out a widespread gritting operation using a brine solution in anticipation of the coldest night of the season.
Motorists and pedestrians are advised to remain cautious, particularly during the morning and evening periods when ice may persist in shaded areas.
Early indications are that the cold weather is to continue, with the snap bringing even colder temperatures at the start of the new week…
