The crew of Yarmouth RNLI saved two teenagers from the icy waters of the Solent yesterday morning (Saturday).
Working alongside Lymington RNLI, the volunteers plucked a 13-year-old and a 18-year-old from the sea after their Laser dinghy capsized in the Western Solent when it became fouled on a lobster pot buoy. The incident occurred off the Pennington coast between Lymington and Hurst Point.
The 13-year-old youngster had been in the water for some time upon arrival of the lifeboat and required urgent medical attention. The older of the duo fared better, but both of the experienced sailors were taken ashore at Lymington Harbour and conveyed to Southampton General Hospital for treatment for hypothermia.
Their predicament was spotted by someone on the shore who alerted HM Coastguard.
The Severn-class lifeboat was tasked to launch at around 11:10 just as the crew were preparing for a historic photograph by photographer, Jack Lowe.
The lifeboat returned to Yarmouth at around 12:30.
