Yarmouth Bridge will go through its annual servicing work next month, resulting in a 3-day closure for all traffic.
Island Roads will be undertaking various work to keep the structure safe and reliable between 16th-27th March.
The road will be open to pedestrians throughout the work (subject to some potential minor delays) but will need to be closed to traffic for up to 3 days, on 17/18/19th March, between the hours of 09:30 and 15:30.
Mariners are also advised that it is best to avoid trying to navigate the bridge during this time, but if travel is essential, then they should contact the harbour master as far in advance as possible and Island Roads will seek to accommodate journeys.
While the bridge is closed to traffic, the usual diversion via Thorley Road, Wilmingham Lane and the Middle Road, will be in place.
An Island Roads spokesperson has said:
“This work is carried out annually as part of a planned programme to ensure the bridge is maintained in good, reliable working order.
“We apologise in advance for any inconvenience and thanks residents for their understanding.”

This is brilliant planning. Yarmouth Bridge wil be closed while there is chaos resulting from the Horsebridge Hill detour, Betty Haunt Lane is closed and the Military Road will be closed at Brighstone all at the same time. So all you need is a bit of flooding or an accident on Middle Road and the whole of West Wight is cut off. Really?
They are playing with peoples minds.
The lot of them couldn’t organise a
piss up in a brewery yet alone plan road works.
