13th-placed Cowes Sports will attempt to bounce back from last Saturday’s 0-9 home defeat to Wessex Premier leaders Horndean when they face 12th-placed AFC Portchester at Westwood Park this Saturday (6th November).
Portchester are reputedly one of the financially stronger sides in the Wessex League, yet currently share an equal number of points with Cowes (19). Whatever the results at Westwood Park there has never been any shortage of entertainment in the season so far.
In the other Island Wessex League game on Saturday, in Wessex League 1, 17th-placed East Cowes Victoria take on 6th-placed Verwood Town at Beatrice Avenue. Vics lost 1-5 last Saturday to Downton but managed a 1-1 draw midweek at Totton & Eling.
Wessex League 1 leaders Newport travel to North Hampshire to face 4th–placed Andover Town. Newport are in superb form having beaten Infinity 11-2 at Beatrice Avenue midweek. The Port have scored more goals than any other team in either Wessex Division (56) in their 14 games in the season to date at an average of exactly 4 goals a game.
Most Island League sides will be participating in either the Hampshire Vase or the Hampshire Trophy this weekend. Hampshire Trophy holders Brading travel to North Hampshire to face Hampshire Premier League Broughton Saturday. Last season’s beaten Trophy finalists Shanklin also face an away tie at Dorset Premier League Bournemouth Sports FC.
There is 1 fixture on Friday evening when Brading Town Reserves take on Pan Community Reserves at Vicarage Lane in the Hampshire Vase.
