A woman who found herself stuck in the mud – quite literally – was rescued from Ryde Marina yesterday afternoon (Saturday). Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team and the specialist mud rescue team from Ventnor were mobilised to the Esplanade at 13:23. It had been reported to HM Coastguard that a casualty was up to their waist in mud within the confines of the marina. Thankfully, the woman was quickly rescued and given immediate casualty care. She was later conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport for further checks. A spokesperson for Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team has said:
“If you do get trapped, sit back to spread your weight evenly across the surface”.
UPDATE – Praise has been given to Ryde Marina’s harbourmaster, Mike, who is said to have rescued the woman prior to the arrival of emergency services. It’s now known that a member of the public raised the alarm by notifying the harbourmaster to the developing situation, which led to the prompt rescue.
