UPDATED: A woman is being treated in hospital this morning (Sunday) after being pulled out of the River Medina in Newport overnight.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Police were called to the area of Newport Quay outside the Bargeman’s Rest pub at around 03:15 following reports of a female in difficulty.
With 2 ambulances and a Police car on scene, officers quickly located the casualty. It is understood she was unconscious and possibly intoxicated.
The woman was rushed to nearby St Mary’s Hospital where she is now receiving treatment. Her condition is unknown.
Coastguard resources including The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team were called to the incident, but stood down en-route.
UPDATE @ 10:55 – Hampshire Constabulary have now confirmed that a second person – a man – was also pulled from the river, although he did not require hospitalisation.
The woman was taken to hospital as a precaution say Police.
A 32-year-old man from Cowes was arrested on suspicion of harassment but has been released without charge.
