A woman in her 50s has sadly died after being pulled from the water in Ryde on Wednesday evening.
As previously reported by Island Echo, emergency services responded to reports of a person in the water shortly before 18:30.
Ryde Inshore Rescue launched its lifeboat at the request of HM Coastguard and swiftly located the woman between Appley and Puckpool on the east side of Ryde.
CPR was commenced immediately with the lifeboat recovered back to the boat house, where the volunteer lifeboat crew were joined by Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team and paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Around an hour after the incident began the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance landed in the grounds of the nearby nunnery, with medics making their way to the casualty at Ryde Rescue’s Appley base.
Sadly, despite the best efforts of all involved, the woman was pronounced dead upon arrival at hospital having been conveyed by land ambulance.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary have confirmed that the woman’s next of kin and the coroner have been informed.
