AIR AMBULANCE SCRAMBLED AS PERSON PULLED FROM THE SEA OFF RYDE

A person spotted floating in the sea off Ryde has been hauled aboard a lifeboat and rushed ashore this evening (Wednesday).

HM Coastguard, Police and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are currently on scene at Ryde Rescue’s base at Appley having been alerted to reports of a person in the water shortly before 18:30.

Ryde Rescue launched its lifeboat into the fading light in response to the reports, quickly locating the individual between Appley and Puckpool.

CPR is now underway.

The air ambulance is currently circling the area looking for a suitable landing site in the wet weather.

UPDATE @ 19:25 – The air ambulance has landed in the grounds of the nearby nunnery with medics making their way to the location of the casualty, who is now in an ambulance.

It’s unclear at this stage how the person came to be in the water.

UPDATE @ 20:09 – Medics have conveyed the casualty to hospital with the air ambulance relocating to the St Mary’s Hospital helipad.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has been approached for a statement, with an update expected on Thursday morning.
