A 71-year-old woman thought to have been murdered in Wootton last year died as a result of a single stab wound to the neck, an inquest opening has heard.
At an opening held at the Isle of Wight Coroner’s Court earlier today (Wednesday), HM Senior Coroner for the Isle of Wight Caroline Sumeray told the court that Christine Venables, of Glendale Close, Wootton was found deceased in her home address on the 9th September 2024.
A knife was found next to Mrs Venables.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary originally arrested a 76-year-old man on suspicion of murder, but after a thorough investigation he was released with no further action 2 months later.
The court heard how Venables – a retired support assistant born in Ealing – suffered from memory and mental health issues.
The inquest has been adjourned until the provisional date of 19th September.
