Wightlink has been forced to suspend its Yarmouth-Lymington ferry service for the remainder of the day due to what is being called a ‘catastrophic engine failure’ on board Wight Sky. The cross-Solent operator says that it has cancelled all further timetabled sailings for today with customers being directed to terminals at Fishbourne and Portsmouth instead. It appears that the vessel Wight Sky suffered a mechanical issue as it departed Yarmouth as the 17:00 sailing. Those who have arrived at the ferry terminal for their booked crossing have been told that a catosrophic engine failure has occurred, which has seen the Wight Sky limp back to the safety of Yarmouth. It is unclear at this time when the service will resume – at a time when many are quite literally driving home for Christmas.
