Wight Eagles Ladies produced a sensational attacking display as they scored 12 away at Pace Ladies last weekend.
The opening 10 minutes saw a balanced contest, but the Island side soon took control, with young forwards Jess Green and Millie Tinsley using their pace to constantly threaten the opposition defence.
The breakthrough came from midfield when Lauren Hamer struck a spectacular goal from just outside the box, setting the tone for what followed. Quickfire goals from Ellena Boakes and Millie Tinsley extended the lead, before Kira Smith made it 4-0 with a tidy finish from the right.
Pace Ladies briefly pulled one back following a misjudged pass back to the Eagles’ keeper, making it 4-1. But Emma Webb restored the margin just before half time with a powerful effort to send the Eagles in 5-1 up at the break.
The second half picked up right where the first left off. Sophie Lewis added her name to the scoresheet, followed by a long-range strike from Kira Smith to make it 7-1. Despite another consolation goal from Pace, the Eagles continued to dominate possession.
Kira Smith completed her hat-trick, Jess Green got in on the action, and the final minutes saw further goals from Millie Tinsley and Tawnie Siddall. Tinsley rounded off the game in style with a top-corner strike to seal her own hat-trick.
Manager Dan Verstraeten has said:
“The ladies were top drawer from the minute they kicked off. They kept the ball incredibly well and produced some great football – it was a joy to watch from the side-line.
“All the goals were spectacular and a game I will never forget. I think that’s the biggest win for the Eagles Ladies so far in our history.”
Wight Eagles Ladies play their final match of the season on Sunday (13th April), with a 14:00 kick-off at GKN Sports Field in East Cowes.
