A week of tight scores, tough weather, and standout performances has seen new champions crowned at Westridge Golf Club during a packed schedule of competitions.
In Wednesday’s Stableford event (13th August), Tom Moriarty came out on top with 38 points, followed by Martyn Wakefield with 36 points and Steve Sansford in third on 35 points after countback.
The Junior Stableford held on Thursday (14th August) saw Dylan Wasson claim first place with 37 points on countback from Nathan Parrott, with Winston Hunnybunn close behind on 36 points.
Across Friday and Saturday (15th-16th August), the 9 Hole Stableford saw Peter Dixcey lead the way with 22 points. Marc Dempsey followed with 19 points, while Bowy White and Melvyn Probyn tied on 18 points, with Bowy taking third place on countback.
The main highlight of the week was the Ladies Championship held over Saturday and Sunday (16th-17th August). Helen Whittaker secured the Scratch title with a two-day total of 156, including a weekend-best round of 77 on day one and 79 on day two. Jacky Cook finished runner-up on 182, while Jas Royl climbed into third with 184 on countback.
In the Handicap section, Louise Webb claimed victory with a steady final-day performance of 70 net, bringing her total to 139 net. Jan Little secured second place on 140 net after countback from Helen Whittaker, who also finished on 140 net. Overnight leaders Shelagh Merrifield and Barbara Sleap were unable to maintain their advantage.
In Sunday’s (17th August) Stableford competition, Division 1 saw Kim Meguyer take first place on countback with 38 points, ahead of Phil Brennan also on 38, and Ernie Moore with 36. In Division 2, Brian Skelley topped the leaderboard with 39 points, while Melvyn Probyn and John Moorman each scored 35 points, with Melvyn taking second on countback.
