Not only are Whitecroft & Barton leading Island League 1, but their unbeaten reserve side currently top Combination 1.
W&B took a step closer to securing the Isle of Wight Combination 1 title by beating Sandown Reserves 1-2 at the Fairway Sports complex on Tuesday.
The first half was a highly competitive affair in which W&B came close to scoring through headers from Simon Williams and John Bilton.
For Sandown, Monty Bardell had a very strong 20-yard drive stopped by the W&B keeper shortly before half-time. However, neither side were able to break the deadlock and the first half remained goalless.

The second half was an enthralling contest packed with controversy. W&B took an early lead when Sandown goalkeeper, Jason Ferguson, kicked the ball into the path of W&B’s Kieran Lewis in an attempt to prevent it going out for a corner, only for Lewis to dispatch the ball to the far corner of the Sandown goal. (0-1)
W&B came close to gaining a 2-goal advantage through a Jack East free-kick that hit a Sandown upright.
Sandown bounced back into the game with a 66th minute penalty won and scored by Ollie Smith. (1-1)
The game then became feisty with referee, Andy Doncaster, sinbinning W&B’s Ash Gulliver for dissent and yellow carding the Sandown manager, Liam Pearce.
However, Sandown were unable to take advantage of playing against 10 men. In the 82nd minute, a Sandown defender was controversially ruled to have handled the ball in the penalty area. In the resulting penalty, Jack East sent the Sandown keeper the wrong way to secure all 3 points for the away side. (1-2)
