The Isle of Wight’s very own Scott Jones has gone somewhat viral on social media after being interviewed by BBC Sport and featured on Match of the Day’s Twitter feed.
Chichester City player Scott, who hails from Binstead, was interviewed by BBC’s Mark Chapman earlier this week as the club – the lowest-ranked in the FA Cup – celebrated a second-round draw against Tranmere or Wycombe Wanderers.
The amusing interview, which has had over 120,000 views on Twitter alone, took a turn away from football when Jones said that surfing beats scoring a winning goal in the FA Cup.
Scott has travelled the world in recent years and describes himself as a pro surfer, adventurer and an environmentalist, as well as a hater of single-use plastic. When not crossing Vietnam on a motorcycle or exploring mountains in the US, Scott can be found clearing the beaches of plastic and other rubbish at Blackgang.
Jones, 29, will be well known locally having played for Binstead & COB, Brading Town and Newport IW FC over the years. He also played for Havant before moving clubs to Chichester City.
Mark Chapman concluded the interview by saying “you’re the best footballer I’ve ever interviewed”.
