Wet Leg have released the video for their new single “Pokemon” following 3 recent Grammy nominations.
Fresh from earning nods for Alternative Performance (“Mangetout”), Alternative Album and Best Album Cover, Wet Leg — Rhian Teasdale, Hester Chambers, Ellis Durand (bass), Henry Holmes (drums) and Joshua Mobaraki (guitar, synth) — have just completed a sold-out UK and Irish headline tour that included a thundering show at London’s Royal Albert Hall. The band will return to the US later this month for another run of live dates.
“Pokemon” appears on their forthcoming second album Moisturizer, a record that plunges into every shade of love: blissed-out, stressed-out, gooey, obsessive, mysterious and occasionally unhinged. Across the song’s three-and-a-half-minute runtime, Rhian Teasdale moves through many of these emotional extremes.
Directed by Elliott Arndt of Faux Real — longtime tour mates of the band — the accompanying video stars Alice Longyu Gao in a surreal tale of a character navigating an unusual relationship with a giant egg. It’s another strange, striking entry in Wet Leg’s growing library of wonderfully offbeat visuals.
With Moisturizer on the horizon and Grammy attention building, Wet Leg continue to stand out as one of indie rock’s most inventive and unpredictable acts.
