Westridge Golf Club have won the Royal Green Jackets trophy for the 1st time in the competition’s 47-year history by beating Royal Winchester in the final at Hockley Golf Club.
Westridge will now represent Hampshire in the English Junior Champion Club at Woodhall Spa – the home of England Golf – on 11th & 12th August.
The Isle of Wight club scored 80 points – 19 more than their opponents – who were also looking to claim the Green Jackets title for the 1st time.
The Army’s Royal Green Jackets regiment – based close to the Hockley club – donated the trophy to Hampshire Golf for the benefit of junior golf.
Westridge are just the second team from the Isle of Wight to win the Hampshire Junior Inter-Club Knockout competition since it was founded in 1976. Shanklin & Sandown Golf Club have claimed the trophy a record 5 times since 1992.
A delighted Westridge junior organiser Nigel Gore said:
“This is the biggest day in our club’s history. It is easily the biggest result we have ever had. I am so pleased with the way the team played. It’s just massive.”
