Defending champions Whitecroft & Barton Sports have now won all 9 games they have played in the season so far, their latest victory being a comprehensive 0-4 demolition of Sandown & Lake at the Fairway Sports Complex.
W&B were 3 goals up at halftime on Saturday. Sam Yelland opened the scoring in the 7th minute by heading in a corner from Sainsbury (0-1). W&B doubled their goal tally 2 minutes later through an unfortunate own goal (0-2). Oli Wilson then added a 3rd shortly before half time by heading in a Josh Appell cross (0-3). 10 minutes from full time, Appell turned from provider to scorer, adding a 4th for the away side with a neat finish to make Sandown’s misery complete (0-4).
W&B’s win leaves them in 2nd place in Division 1 with 27 points from 9 games, 2 points behind leaders Shanklin but with 2 games in hand. Sandown’s defeat leaves them in 10th place with 6 points from 7 games.
After the game, Sandown manager Mark Mulholland said:
“We lost the game in the first 15 minutes, going 2-0 down. It was 3-0 at half time, so I was expecting the worst. But we played really well in the 2nd half. I would say they are the best team we have played this season.”

IW Division 1: Shanklin 7-0 Northwood St Johns
Division 1 leaders Shanklin maintained their unbeaten record in the season so far by demolishing Northwood St Johns at the County Ground, courtesy of a Nick Vyse hat trick and single goals from Cory Sanderson, Kyle Drew, Brad Young and Jason Smithers. Shanklin remain 2 points clear at the top of Division 1 with 29 points from 11 games. Northwood remain in 5th place with 13 points from 11 games.
IW Division 1: Bembridge 4-2 Niton Community
Bembridge kept in touch with pace setters Shanklin and 2nd-placed W&B by beating 1st Division newcomers Niton 4-2 at Steyne Park
Micheal Brown scored 1st for Bembridge. The 2nd goal came courtesy of a curling shot into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area from Macauley Watterson. Dexter Malin put Bembridge 3-up at half time with a follow up shot after the ball hit the crossbar.
After the break, Josh Field scored a 4th for Bembridge that took a deflection into the net. Niton then scored 2 consolation goals from Jared Cousins.
After the game, Bembridge manager Justin Malin paid tribute to the Niton side saying:
“Respect to Niton who never gave up for one minute and battled all the way to the final whistle.”
Bembridge remain 3rd in the Division 1 table with 25 points from 11 games, and Niton are 11th with 9 points from 10 games.
IW Division 1: Oakfield 2-4 Brading Town
The Romans won their 3rd game in a row in bruising encounter at Slade Road. Brading led 2-0 at half time, scoring a 3rd goal shortly after the half time break. Oakfield than scored 2 in reply before Brading finished the game as a contest with a goal 10 minutes before full time. The scorers for the Romans were Aaron Bennett (hat trick and man-of-the-match) and Matt Oatley. Brading are now in 9th place in Division 1 with 9 points from 9 games and Oakfield are rooted to the bottom of the table with 4 points from 7 games.
IW Division 1: Ryde Saints 1-2 Cowes Sports Reserves
Ryde Saints lost their 1st game at Smallbrook Stadium under new manager Nic Johnson. Lucas Baker opened the scoring for Saints by beating a defender for pace then scoring from a tight angle (1-0). Owen Denness then saved a penalty for Cowes. Dan Pearson equalized for the Yachtsman with a 25-yard strike into the top corner (1-1). Alex Harvey snatched all 3 points for Cowes with a last-minute header. The Yachtsmen are now 4th in the Division 1 table with 16 points from 9 games, and Saints remain second-from-bottom with 4 points from 7 games.
IW Division 1: West Wight 1-1 Vectis
West Wight drew 1-1 with Vectis at Camp Road. Vectis conceded an own goal but scored through their man-of-the-match Jamie Barratt.
After the game, manager Reece Biedler said: “If we could finish our chances this would’ve been a lot easier. We need to start putting teams away when dominating for the majority of the game.”
The draw leaves West Wight in 6th place in Division 1 with 12 points from 8 games. Vectis are in 9th with 9 points from 9 games.
IW Division 2: Pan Community 7-5 East Cowes Vics Reserves
Pan stay top of Isle of Wight Division 2 after a 7-5 win over Vics Reserves in a 12-goal thriller at Downend. Pan raced into a 4-0 half time lead with the help of some bad defensive errors from Vics. Poor marking then allowed Vics to net 5 goals, but Pan controlled most of the game and apparently deserved the win.
Saturday’s scorers for Pan were: Ross lacey (5), Jack Davies and Josh Piper. Pan have now scored 70 goals in 12 games at an average of over 5 goals a game. On target for Vics were Sam Cant (2 on debut), Charlie Southcott, Billy Haylor and a wonder strike from Harry Clarke.
Pan Reserves thrashed Newchurch 0-9 in Combination 2, the goals coming from Toby Lloyd (hat trick), Tyler Mullan 2, Josh Hadcroft, Jake Winch, Adam Sturge and Alex Hatton.
Pan lead Division 2 with 31 points from 12 games. East Cowes Sports (who drew 3-3 with Adgestone) are 2nd with 28 points from their 12 games.
IW Division 2: Newport Reserves 2-3 Wroxall
Wroxall won their 1st game in 2 years by beating Newport Reserves 2-3 at Northwood Rec. Wroxall’s scorers were Cody Christie, Pip Hamilton and Steve Lenton.
After the game, Wroxall Chairman James Sheath said:
“I’ve only missed 3 games in 2 years but unfortunately I was absent on Saturday. We haven’t won any games till now in the 2 years that I’ve been chairman. However, we’ve stuck together and not given up. There’s always 15 to 20 at training, but it’s difficult getting everyone together on match day. Credit is due to captain Sean Feeney, who has brought in some new players. Hopefully, we’ll get some more wins this season.
Wroxall remain bottom-of-the-table with 3 points from 10 games, and Newport Reserves are 2nd-from-bottom with 4 points from 12 games.
