Two voids that have opened up overnight on the Island’s road network are causing traffic delays today (Friday).
According to Island Roads, a void on Colwell Road, Freshwater has resulted in one lane being closed near to Maderia Lane. Motorists are being advised to avoid the area to minimise delays in the area.
It has also been announced that a second void has been discovered on Newport Road, Northwood on the northbound lane.
Due to the repairs needing to be carried out, two-way temporary traffic lights are in operation which is causing tailbacks in and out of Cowes, affecting Route 1 buses.
Engineers from Southern Water are investigating to establish whether a burst water main underground could be at fault for the holes appearing.
A similar incident closed Cross Street in Ryde in October 2011 and Collingwood Road in Shanklin in June 2012 (pictured).
