Visitors to Newport’s Jobcentre at Broadlands House were alarmed this morning (Thursday) when they were directed to get into the center of the room and later told to evacuate the building on the anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks.
Alarms at the building on Staplers Road were activated at around 10:00 causing worry and confusion to job seekers, who were told there was a bomb scare.
Thankfully, it has been confirmed that the incident was a drill as part of the jobcentre’s annual fire and bomb drills, although some visitors didn’t want to stay near the building after being told to get outside and move away.
The test comes on the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York back in 2001 which claimed the lives of thousands.
