A by-election will be held just days before Christmas to fill a gap on the Isle of Wight Council — and the 1st candidate has thrown their hat into the ring. Following the resignation of Ventnor and St Lawrence councillor, Gary Peace, at the end of October, a new representative is needed. Enough people have now called for a by-election, that the Isle of Wight Council is putting the wheels in motion. If more than 1 candidate comes forward to fill the vacant seat, the by-election will be held on Thursday 21st December. Those wishing to stand have until Friday 24th November at 16:00 to return their nomination papers, which can be found here: iwc.iow.gov.uk/documentlibrary/download/nomination-paper-pack-ventnor-and-st-lawrence The 1st candidate to come forward is local businessman and operator of Ventnor Haven Management, Ed Blake, for the Conservatives. Hoping to fill the former Tory seat, Mr Blake said he believes the ward needs a councillor who has lived there for their whole life, understands the priorities of local people and who can be a strong and effective voice on their behalf. Those in Ventnor and St Lawrence who are not yet registered to vote, but would like to be, have until midnight on 5th December. Applications can be made here: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. Applications for those requiring a postal vote must be made to County Hall in Newport by 17:00 on Wednesday 6th December.

Pull the other one. Interest in local folks.
He would vote for a Tax on Fog if it was in his interest. Self serving candidates will fill the ballot paper and we are supposed to decide which one will hurt us the least.. Stupid system that rewards greed, power and the interests of fellow council members before the electorate! He is a nice enough fellow and I understand his interest in standing but suspect it has more to do with peppercorn rents and council tax breaks before the interests of anyone in Ventnor.
I suspect you are reflecting your own personality. Some people do want to help their community and fellow residents, perhaps you never feel like that; how sad
