Ventnor FC has withdrawn from Island League 1, it has been confirmed.
Despite the recent addition of 2 Wessex League Newport players, Harrison Yates and Neo Lamb, the club no longer has sufficient players available to fulfil their fixtures for the remainder of the season.
The South Wight club was unable to raise a team for Saturday’s game against Sandown.
However, the club aim to return to Island football for the 2021/22 season.
A club spokesperson told Island Echo:
“We have lots of players in the hospitality industry. It is too much to ask them to give up work, particularly after they have been furloughed.
“We did not want the season to restart and voted ‘No’ to this proposal. 18 games in 2 months is simply too much to ask.
“The pitch is the best it has ever been. We have decided to call it a day and start again next season.”
The bottom-of-the-table club drew their previous game 3-3 on Saturday 17th April away to second-from-bottom Carisbrooke United.
