A Ventnor nursery has jumped from ‘Inadequate’ to ‘Outstanding’ in just 6 months in what it has described as a momentous achievement.
In June 2022, Ofsted visited Ventnor Community Early Years (VCEY) and raised concerns about children’s wellbeing being compromised.
Now, changes have been made and after a 2nd visit in December, the education watchdog found children were exceptionally happy and settled.
The inspectors said the children were highly motivated, active learners and behaved well and that children receive excellent support, including those with special education needs and/or disabilities.
Inspectors also found that staff have high expectations for all children and any gaps in their development were swiftly identified and discussed with parents.
The quality of education was also found to be exceptional as staff plan a broad and stimulating curriculum which they use to help children develop an exceptionally wide range of skills for the future.
Since the last inspection, Ofsted said VCEY had significantly improved the learning environment and re-established the outstanding quality of children’s care and learning.
Managers, inspections said, use their extensive expertise, knowledge of child development and management skills to make ongoing improvements to the setting, including the curriculum. The staff are extremely caring and king towards the children, responding to their individual care needs and have greatly improved how they manage children’s behaviour.
All areas of the inspection had improved to outstanding; the quality of education; behaviour and attitudes; personal development; and leadership and management.
Safeguarding measures are effective, Ofsted said, and staff have exemplary knowledge and understanding of child protection.
Posting on Facebook, the early years setting said it was a momentous achievement and simply unheard to accomplish in such a short time. They said:

Probably all that passive smoking of cannabis, they do say that it calms the hyper children down.
They haven’t turned anything around. They were harshly judged for spurious reasons. The staff there are absolutely fantastic and always do an amazing job, the issue here was the original inspectors unfair report, not the stellar work of the staff.
And to the troll suggesting drug use, I hope your medication kicks in soon, as your daily internet allowance is almost up and the orderlies need to put you back in your special room.
