UPDATED: Police and ambulance crews are this morning (Friday) attending a road traffic collision on The Downs between Ashey and Newport.
A Silver Peugeot has left the carriageway near to Duxmore Farm between Lime Kiln Shute and Newport Shute, and has suffered extensive rear damage.
Island Echo understands a second vehicle – believed to be a red Toyota IQ – has been involved in the incident which happened just before 08:15 – as reported on Twitter.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area with traffic reportedly building up and becoming heavy in both directions, especially Newport bound.
UPDATE @ 09:15 – The drivers of both vehicles involved have been uninjured in the incident. The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are not conveying anyone to hospital, according to a spokesperson.
Recovery of the vehicles is now being arranged and the road is expected to be cleared shortly.
UPDATE @ 09:45 – The road has now been cleared and traffic is free flowing.
