Volunteer lifeboat crews members from Cowes RNLI have rescued two people who became cut off whilst fossil hunting in Thorness Bay this lunchtime (Thursday).
Cowes RNLI lifeboat was requested for immediate launch just before 13:00 after Solent Coastguard received reports that two persons had become stuck at Thorness Bay near Gurnard.
Island Echo understand a steep and muddy path, part of a landslip, was preventing the two students from Southampton University, a 20 year old female studying marine biology and a male aged 21 studying geology, from returning from their trip in the bay.
The assistance of the Needles Coastguard Rescue Team was also requested and assisted in transferring the two individuals to the lifeboat with their pushbikes before they were safely taken back to Cowes Harbour.
The lifeboat, helmed by Max Rimington, had been away from station for 45 minutes.
