UPDATED: Two cars have collided in Newport Town Centre this afternoon (Friday) prompting a response from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.
A Vauxhall Zafira has collided with the rear of a VW Passat, which has in turn collided with a traffic sign on St James’ Street at the junction with Lugley Street. The incident occurred at around 15:05.
Paramedics are currently on the scene assessing any injuries sustained. One fire appliance from Newport Fire Station is also on the scene alongside Police.
The road is blocked between Hunnyhill and the High Street, with Southern Vectis Route 1 buses diverting via Coppins Bridge until further notice.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
UPDATE @ 15:50 – Fire crews have now left the scene and returned to station.
Recovery has been arranged for the vehicles involved.
A woman and two children travelling in the Vauxhall have escaped injury.
