UPDATED: Fire crews are this afternoon tackling a house fire at a property in Cowes.
Three appliances from Newport, Cowes and Ryde are currently in attendance at a house on Ward Avenue, where it is understood a TV has caused a fire to break out in the living room of the property.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus have entered the building and are using two hose reels to tackle the flames.
UPDATE @ 16:55 – The British Red Cross are now on the scene with their Emergency Support vehicle providing warmth, shelter and provisions for residents evacuated from the fire-struck property.
Island Echo understand that the ground floor of the house has been damaged by both the smoke and heat from the fire, which has been successfully contained to the living room.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service’s temporary Incident Command Unit has also attended the scene, however one appliance now remains on the scene damping down.
The fire, which has involved around 15 firefighters, has been extinguished.
No persons have been injured in the incident.
