Firefighters from Shanklin and Ryde have rushed to a reported flat fire in Sandown tonight (Friday) – but no action has been needed.
It was just before 21:00 that 3 appliances and a duty officer were mobilised to Victoria Road in the centre of town, amid fears a fire had developed in a top story flat.
The first crew on scene – retained firefighters from Shanklin – quickly ascertained that no blaze was present and were able to make safe entry to the property.
It has now been confirmed that no fire has been located, with the incident being treated as a false alarm.
Other emergency services rushing to The Bay have been stood down en-route.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is now standing down from the incident, with all 3 pumps set to return to home stations.
