Tributes have been flooding in for Tristan Price, a respected and loved Islander described as a one in a million guy, who tragically died in last night’s crash on the outskirts of Godshill.
Ventnor Rugby Club have led the tributes to the popular Isle of Wight rugby player, who had served his club for some 29 years.
The South Wight club have described Tristan – in his mid-40s – as a constant presence and a familiar face, and a true club man in every sense. They have acknowledged his commitment, character and unmistakable personality.
Tristan was also known for his work as a doorman in Newport, with his death said to be a massive loss to the Isle of Wight’s nightlife. He was heading to work when the crash occurred.
He has been described as the ‘friendliest doorman ever to work the doors’ and a man who gave everyone a chance, had time for anyone, and genuinely made everyone’s nights out better.
It’s said that he is going to be truly missed by so many.
It was just after 20:00 last night (Saturday) that emergency services were called to Whitwell Road, at Roud, to reports of a single vehicle crash.
Police say that officers arrived to find that a Citroen Picasso was involved.
Medics – including the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance – did all they could, but Tristan’s life could not be saved and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are now appealing for information, with investigating officers wanting to speak to any witnesses, particularly anyone with relevant dash cam footage, that may assist enquiries.

With all these comments from my heart I want to thank everyone. My wife, Jenny and I love him so much and as you said he was a “Gentle Giant” He had a great respect from all that new him. Tristan loved his family as it showed when he was around them and us.he will be so missed and it will take a long time for Jen and I to get over this tragedy.
