Island Line suspended their train service earlier this evening following a technical fault with the line.
Passengers on board the stranded train at Ryde Pier were informed by the conductor of a small fire, however IslandEcho can confirm that a track fault was in fact to blame for the incident and cancellation of two journeys.
The train operator arranged for a taxi shuttle service to run between Ryde Esplanade and Ryde Pier Head.
An Island Line spokeswoman said:
“At around 8.45pm, a piece of line side equipment was damaged near Ryde St John’s Road. As a result, services were temporarily suspended but returned to normal at around 9.50pm.
“We would like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
